London has countless beautiful sights and attractions to see. Although you can easily walk or cycle around many of the main visitor sections, it can be a little exhausting to go everywhere by foot after a while. A bus tour can be a wonderful way to simplify your strategy of seeing the sights. Plus, with a bus tour, if the sun is shining (which it can be in Summer), you can even enjoy an open-top double-decker experience.

So, what are your options when it comes to bus tours in London? The most obvious ones that the city has to offer come from three main companies. There’s the Original London Bus Tour, the Big Bus Tour, and the Golden Double Decker tour. Choose any of these three options and you’re going to get an excellent experience, and a chance to check out plenty of great tourist spots.

    1. The Original London Bus Tour

The Original London bus tour is probably one of the best-known and most highly rated hop-on and hop-off bus tours in London. There are three different bus routes to cover the city. On the yellow route, you can see St Paul’s Cathedral and Piccadilly Circus.
Take the blue route, and you’ll visit the shopping district of Kensington, as well as Kensington Palace. Royal Albert Hall is also a must-see attraction on the blue tour route. The third and final Orange Route includes locations like the British Museum and the British Library. All through routes will come with access to plenty of commentaries in several languages, so you can learn more about the places you pass when you’re on the move.

There’s a selection of 3 free walking tours included with your tickets, free Wi-Fi on the bus itself, and a cruise along the Thames too. You can even get a 48-hour ticket.

    2. The Golden Bus Tour

The Golden Bus Tour is very similar to the Original London Bus tour, although the prices can be quite a bit higher. Golden busses, like the Original bus tour busses, come with open tops, so you can check out the sights while getting the wind in your hair. The hop-on hop-off tour tickets cover all three bus routes, so you can jump on and off for up to 24 hours.

There are about 70 stops available on the Golden Bus tour, compared to over 100 for the Original alternative. You can check out landmarks like the London Eye and Buckingham Palace, and there’s plenty of commentary from professional guides too. If you’ve got limited time, you can get around a lot of locations fast with this tour, and you’ll get things like a free walking tour and a free ride on the river Thames as part of the ticket price.

    3. The Big Bus Tour

The Big Bus Tour is perhaps the best choice if you’re looking for the open-top experience. Unlike other busses that only leave around half of the bus open-top, you get a full wind-in-your-hair experience here. The London Big Bus Tour follows the same structure as the two options mentioned above, with a single ticket covering all of your rides for the entire day. You can disembark and get back on the bus whenever you choose, with 40 stops to choose from.

The Big Bus Tour covers all of the major attractions of London, including the London Eye, and there’s a complimentary river cruise included. There’s a free one hour and half hour walking tour included with this tour too. Kids up to the age of four travel free on this bus tour, and every bus comes with maps, so you can track where you’re going.
